: Inspecting and Testing Swinging Fire Doors

(A three-day course—approximately 20 hours total.)

Presented by: Door Safety, LLC

IMPORTANT: This training session is reserved for SIEMENS' technicians and employees only.

Today’s building, life safety, and fire codes contain provisions and requirements for the ongoing inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire door assemblies. Owners and facility management personnel are responsible for maintaining fire doors in their buildings in working condition throughout their service lives.

This custom three-day training course introduces you to the world of swinging fire doors, with an emphasis on performing door safety inspections and testing as required by NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. Of the all of the types of fire door assemblies covered in NFPA 80, swinging doors with builders hardware are the most common. These types of swinging fire door assemblies are specially-engineered, component-based systems that range from simple mechanical functions to complex electrified hardware functions integrated into other building systems (e.g., detectors, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems). Fire doors require an extraordinary level of attention and detail at every step: installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance.

Along with learning NFPA 80’s provisions and requirements for inspecting, testing, and maintaining swinging fire doors, inspectors need to learn how to perform these services. Accuracy, consistency, and efficiency are essential to developing these new skills. Not only does each inspector need to be accurate, consistent, and efficient as they assess each door assembly, every inspector on the team needs to conduct the inspections and testing with the same scrutiny.

Each attendee receives:

  • NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives (2016 edition)
  • Door Safety’s Handbook: Inspecting and Maintaining Swinging Egress and Fire Doors
